Bio-Plastics

Traditional plastics use fossil fuels to form their polymers, leading to an increase in anthropogenic carbon emissions in our environment. In adition, petroleum-based plastics are inable to be broken down by natural processes and can remain in the environment for up to 500 years. In response to this, Cruisin' Brews is transitioning to plastics formed from biologically-based ingredients. Our bio-plastics can degrade quickly, do not rely on fossil fuels, and have a smaller carbon footprint then their petroleum-based plastic counterparts. 

Compostable Straws

At least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year (International Union for Conservation of Nature, 2021). Plastic accummulated in waterways is dangerous to the aquatic life that ingests it or is exposed to the toxins that leach from it. Traditional straws are unable to be recycled and are one of the most commonly found plastics in waterways (NOAA, 2022). It is estimated that as many as 70% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have ingested some type of plastic from the ocean. In response to this, Cruisin' Brews uses paper straws or straws produced from bio-plastics. 

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Like a typical boomer, our 1951 Willys Jeep does not care about it's carbon footprint. In order to mitigate the carbon released from our Jeep, the truck used to tow it to and from events, and other business activities, Crusin' Brews will partner with Terapass starting in 2024. We will purchase carbon offsets from Terapass and they work on our behalf to invest in emission reduction projects across North America and around the world. These projects include reforestation, renewable energy produced by wind power and methane capture at dairy farms,  landfills, and abandoned coal mines.
